LeadingAge California's Membership
LeadinngAge California's membership includes a diversity of organizations that provide housing, services and care to older adults. Voting members are nonprofit organizations, which include:

• Affordable senior housing providers
• Assisted living facilities
• Continuing care retirement communities
• Home and community-based services
• Skilled nursing facilities

Joining the association includes membership to LeadingAge. Proprietary companies and individuals also participate as Associate and Allied members.

Influence
LeadingAge California was organized and incorporated in 1961 as a nonprofit California corporation charged with protecting the tax-exempt status of its members. Since then, the association has grown into a recognized leader in the state, advocating on behalf of its members, and providing quality educational programming and timely, relevant communications. With more than 400 members, LeadingAge California is an influential voice in Sacramento with legislators, regulators, boards and commissions.

Information
Today, no organization can go it alone. It is a daunting task to keep up with the laws and regulations that seem to change on a daily basis, yet failure to do so can be costly and disruptive. At LeadingAge California you are represented by a skilled and effective public policy team committed to working on your issues and keeping you informed. Advocacy
LeadingAge California takes action in Sacramento on your behalf with the state legislature, regulatory agencies and departments, helping enact legislation that affects your future. We coordinate efforts on state and federal policies with LeadingAge, our national association.

Training and Education
LeadingAge California develops and delivers quality educational programs at locations throughout California on topics that are critically important to the long-term care and aging community. Members benefit from the many educational opportunities available through the association, enabling them to grow and learn, manage change, implement cost-effective practices, and provide the highest level of service to clients.

Membership Criteria
Any nonprofit home, facility, agency, or institution for the aging or physically disabled shall be deemed eligible for Membership with LeadingAge California providing said Member and the Corporation operating it meet the following requirements:

Complies with the following criteria:

  1. The Member must be governed by a bona fide volunteer board of trustees or directors which regularly participates in review of its philosophy and purpose and which is fiscally and programmatically accountable and responsible to the person served, to the sponsoring group, and the broader community.
  2. The Member shall have an identifiable controlling not-for-profit corporation, trust or agency which administers the not-for-profit character of the services provided.
  3. The Member is eligible for exemption from federal income tax under section 501(c) or other appropriate provision of the Internal Revenue Code.
  4. The Member has a procedure for identifying and dealing with cases of duality or possible conflict of interest to be stated preferable in the bylaws of the organization.
  5. The Member’s sponsorship is rooted in a community, e.g., a neighborhood, minority, ethnic, church, fraternal, or governmental group.
  6. The Member is committed to the development of community linkages and services, both for the well being of the person served, as well as that of the larger community, and should assure continuity of care either within the home or elsewhere through conscientious planning.
  7. The Member shall have a nondiscriminatory policy indicating that no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in its program for services because of race, color, or national origin.
  8. The Member is licensed according to the levels of care it purports to provide within the context of state and local requirements.

Adheres to adopted and disseminated LeadingAge California policy regarding Membership standards and ethics.
   
Membership in LeadingAge California must be approved by the Board of Directors and shall not be transferable or assignable.
