LeadingAge California Launches District Effort to Oppose AB 2171 - by Eric Dowdy - July 5, 2014
While the California Legislature is in recess for the summer, LeadingAge California members will be visiting district offices across the state to oppose AB 2171 (Wieckowski, D-Fremont). This measure, if enacted, would establish a new private right of action on a ambiguously worded list of “new” resident rights and impose other provisions with adverse consequences for assisted living providers.

New Chief of Continuing Care Contracts Branch Named - by Eric Dowdy - July 10, 2014
Almost two years after the retirement of John Rodriquez in 2012, the Department of Social Services has announced Ms. Evon Lenerd assumed the Chief’s position on July 7, 2014. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Lenerd was the Chief of the Professional Certification Branch in the Licensing and Certification Division at the Department of Public Health.

Governor Makes Appointments to Key Housing Posts - by Meghan Masera - July 10, 2014
Governor Jerry Brown recently announced the appointment of two key housing members within his administration: Claudia Cappio, of Oakland, has been appointed director of the California Department of Housing and Community Development.Tia Boatman-Patterson, of Sacramento, has been appointed executive director of the California Housing Finance Authority.

In June, the Legislature and the Governor reached a deal to allocate a portion of the state’s cap-and-trade auction proceeds to the development of affordable housing.

2015 Call for Proposals
The 2015 Annual Conference is built around LeadingAge California’s Strategic initiatives of developing “out of the box” innovative programs that will enrich the care and services of California’s growing aging population. The primary areas of programming will include workforce development (specifically cultivating leadership and attracting new talent to the field of aging), increasing and expanding the use of technology in all care settings and stimulating innovation in the aging field and advancing new models of service delivery.
